Focusing on Rotary;'s Peace Efforts in the World

        November 10, 2017 Meeting
Of the things WE Think, Say and DO:
     1. Is it the truth? 2.  Will it build better friendships? 3. is it Fair to all Concerned?  4.  Is it beneficial to all concerned?

(Editors Note)  We received two responses from last weeks story on the FOUR WAY TEST.
From Corina:  "The video was interesting to me as this is the first time to be involved in such a great effort. - One way in Romania would be to invite guest to local meetings to find more of what Rotary stands for. - Have a city hall forum as here in Romania, ethics needs to be promoted in any and all ways. - It seems to me, that in my work in the Public Administration area, that even simple examples set by me promote the four way test of Rotary.."
From Philip:  ""Three ways to promote Rotary Ethics here in Romania. As Rotary is a relatively new area in Romania and it is our privilege to be a part of this E-Club...here are some or our ideas to promote Rotary Ethics outside the Club and into the Romanian population: 1. Hold educational discussion on what Rotary is at the Junior and High School level; thus putting the seed of Rotary in all minds. 2. In Romania, there are many contest for the best in Math, Science, Computer Science...etc...to put Rotary in the front of all by providing a scholarship to move to the next level of Competition and teaching each and every participant the principals involved in competition...not just to win, but how you win. 3. By publicly displaying that we are Rotarian in our everyday business activities.

Rotary has Six areas of Focus.  They include Peace and Conflict Resolution, Economic Development, Maternal and Child Health,
Basic Education and Literacy, Disease Prevention and  water and sanitation,  This week we will focus on PEACE and Conflict resolution.

This week the United Nations honors six people who have done exceptional work in the world in the area of PEACE.  You will find a story below about Ann Frisch, the only US citizen to receive this award.  To find the other honorees, Click HERE.

November is Foundation Month

  Welcome!
To start the meeting, we will recite the Rotary Four Way Test:

"Of the things we think, say and do:  Is it the Truth?  Is it Fair to all Concerned?  Will it Build Goodwill and Better Friendships?  Will it be Beneficial to All Concerned?

November is the month to celebrate The Rotary Foundation.  Our Rotary Foundation has received a Four Star Ranking for the past five years from Charity Navigator, which means the Foundation spends over 93% Doing GOOD in the World.
Rotary Centenary
The Rotary Foundation celebrated  its centennial anniversary in 2016-17.  Former Rotary International President Arch Klumph’s idea for an endowment fund dedicated to ‘Doing Good In The World’ planted the seed for The Rotary Foundation in 1917.
That one idea and an initial contribution of $26.50 set in motion a powerful force for good that has transformed millions of lives around the globe over the decades. Over the last 100 years, the Foundation has spent over $3 billion on humanitarian programs across the world. This includes spearheading the movement to eradicate polio across the world, as well as facilitating projects, which address Rotary’s Six Areas of Focus.

Celebrating Our Centenary
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotary members to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotary members and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of creating a better world. This support is essential to make possible projects, funded with Foundation grants, that bring sustainable improvement to communities in need.

What do we do? – Rotary’s Six Areas of Focus
The work of Rotary begins in the community, and every community has its own unique needs and concerns. While we serve in countless ways, we’ve focused our efforts in six key areas to maximise our impact. These areas encompass some of the world’s most critical and widespread humanitarian needs, and we have a proven record of success in addressing them.

Six Areas of Focus

Disease Prevention/Treatment               Peace and Conflict Resolution

      Basic Education/Literacy                               Economic  and Community
                                                                                 Development

Water and Sanitation                                   Maternal and Child Health

How do we do it?
Projects within the Six Areas of Focus are funded by a grant system operated between Rotary clubs and The Rotary Foundation. This gives clubs the opportunity to apply for grants for projects which matter to them.

Whom do we do it with?
Once a project is identified, clubs  partner with Rotary clubs in the host country to undertake the project. Additionally, clubs have the opportunity to partner with approved agencies to provide specialist input in the Six Areas of Focus.

Can we work with you?
The great thing about Rotary is that is gives people the platform to make a difference and focus on the issues which matter to them. If you as an individual or an organization, have a cause you are passionate about, set the wheels in motion and collaborate with clubs locally, nationally and internationally to make a difference.
You will have access to resources and programs that can help you increase your personal and professional skills, gain world understanding, and make lifelong friendships—all while bringing about sustainable, positive change in communities. We are always looking for new ways of ‘Doing Good In The World’
